Biography

Gertrude Hermes is now considered to have been one of the most creative female wood engravers of her generation and one of the most accomplished exponents of the white-line technique. Her engravings are both dramatic and highly stylised in their approach, reflecting her training as a sculptor in their remarkable interpretation of form. Gertrude Hermes was a close friend of both Henry Moore and Leon Underwood, working together with them on a number of joint ventures.
